Directors Note
I first saw Little Shop of Horrors when I was living in New York City and it was performed at the Orpheus Theatre on the lower east side, which at that time, was very close to skid row. It was a magical experience for me then and I hope you will have a similar experience when watching this show 40 years later. I was only 3 years old but the impact was incredible.
A little “Little Shop” history, the musical was inspired by director Roger Corman’s 1960 low budget thriller, shot in two days and featured in a very small role upcoming actor Jack Nicholson. Later the show went to Broadway and was adapted to screen to become a musical film starring Ellen Greene (the original Audrey), Rick Moranis as Seymour and Steve Martin as the Dentist.
Beyond being a dark comedic thriller, the show explores all sorts of human behavior; lust for power, greed, searching for love, feeling inadequate Leaving us with the biggest question “Just how far will you go to get what you want?”
With the talents of my wonderful creative team, cast and crew, it’s been a fantastic show to direct! We hope you enjoy the show!!
